Life isn’t fair.
You hear people say this all the time, as if it’s some kind of mantra or motivational quote.
That’s not to say I’m denying that life is 100% fair. But think of it this way:
Life may not be fair, but you can at least do something about it. No matter how big or small.
And no matter what position you’re in, there’s a couple of things you’re taking for granted.
Things that if you used and took full advantage of, it would benefit your life in some way, shape or form.
We all have them, but because we’re so distracted by bullshit like the news and what society tells us, we don’t see it.
Here are 5 massive advantages you have that you’re taking for granted….
And now would be a good time to change that!
1. You know something others don’t
You know the saying – knowledge is power.
Well, it is. Especially if you use that knowledge instead of letting it rot like a pair of green apples.
The fact is – you know something other people don’t.
You’re probably thinking – WTF? That’s bullshit! There’s no way I know something any better than someone else.
But it’s just not true.
You believe it’s true because you’ve never thought about it seriously.
But if you think about all the compliments people give you in regards to things you know…. You’d realize there’s potential to use it to your advantage and benefit from it somehow.
- How much do you know about specific video games? Do you understand Pokemon games? Do you know how to accomplish difficult challenges people struggle with, that seems easy for you?
- Do you understand something about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) that nobody else has figured out?
- Do you know how to cook Pasta so well, that people shower you with compliments without fail?
- Do you understand human psychology in a way that others don’t?
When people compliment you, it’s easy to brush it off and be modest. Ya know like – “Oh I’m not that great, it’s nothing”.
That kind of response is typical. But what if you actually took those compliments seriously?
You should. And pursuing that knowledge could even benefit you financially. Or maybe help solve someone else’s problem. Like a friend.
Or maybe using that knowledge could help you get your foot in the door, by starting up a blog.
Whatever it is you know that others don’t, find some way to use it to your advantage.
We all have this, it’s just hard to notice it because we take it for granted. As If it’s useless.
2. Unique Experiences
This point is related to the 1st one.
Even though you were raised and live in the same area as 10000’s of other people, your experiences are unique.
Nobody has experienced life the way you’ve experienced it.
You’re the only one who’s seen the things you’ve seen, in the unique way only you could see it.
And because you’ve had unique experiences, your knowledge and perspective is different as well.
Some people use their unique experiences by telling stories, blogging, writing, singing, or doing something else.
And that then inspires, entertains and influences all kinds of people from different backgrounds.
This happens everyday in the entertainment industry (and the internet).
What unique experiences have you had? Maybe there’s a way to take advantage of it in a way you haven’t thought of.
3. The People You Don’t Know
Some of us know 100’s or 1000’s of people, and yet we don’t acknowledge them. Or even bother reaching out to them.
Worse than that is we avoid meeting new people or asking strangers for help. All in the name of pride.
Put your pride aside for a second and think about how much easier it would be if you just asked for help.
As an example a blogger reached out to me not too long ago and did the same thing.
And what do you know?
I gladly gave a helping hand without hesitation.
The people you don’t know have what you want.
And sometimes all it takes is asking for help (without being desperate) and people will willingly help you.
And that’s a massive advantage in of itself if you get comfortable with asking.
That’s how self confidence is built after all, and that’s an added bonus.
4. The Internet, Of Course
The internet is full of free information. All it takes is a few Google searches to research and learn about something in depth.
And yet, how many of us take the internet for granted?
There’s so much you can do with the internet, and so fast, that it’s easy to take it for granted.
And ignore tons of opportunities that are standing right in front of our faces.
They say only over 40% of the world uses the internet.
I’m not saying the reason is because 60% of us take it for granted, but it’s not too far-fetched to believe that’s why a portion of us don’t use it. Because we feel we’re above it or it’s just a thing only “kids” should use.
Big businesses do the same thing, that shouldn’t be a surprise at all.
5. Your Personality
People like Jenna Marbles use their personalities everyday to their own advantage. That’s not to say everybody is meant to be on camera and entertain.
No, but that doesn’t change the fact that your unique personality is an asset, and NOT a liability.
Maybe your personality is more suited to live radio shows. Being a radio host. A TV host. Podcasting.
Or maybe it’s more suited to comedy, or being behind the scenes like a manager of a musician or something.
Whatever it is, you’re the only one who knows best. Think about the things you’re drawn to.
The things that light you up or the situations where you feel most comfortable and alive.
These are the situations where your personality could be used to your advantage.
Either as a career, in business, or some other endeavor that could benefit you in other ways.
It’s easy to overlook it (because you live with yourself everyday), but your personality is unique only to you.
And there’s no way your personality has no value to at least a handful of people. Or enough people for it to make a difference, depending on how you go about it.
5 advantages we have but take for granted:
- The Power of Knowledge
- Unique Experiences
- The People We Know
- The Internet, Of Course
- Your Personality
