Hidradenitis Suppurativa mistakes are:
- Common.
- Happen often.
- Are unseen.
- Go unnoticed.
And can become bad habits if not reeled in and handled as soon as possible.
I’ve made plenty of these H.S Mistakes which Is why I can have the audacity to speak about it.
In this picture alone (when zoomed in) the H.S. is clear.
The goal of this post is to do what I’ve done further down the line, which is to help relieve the mistakes of the past to improve the present and the future of your Hidradenitis Suppuraitva.
Let’s make a list.
Avoid these Hidradenitis Suppurativa mistakes:
1. Relying on creams to heal Hidradenitis Suppurativa
I already went through these trials and tribulations over the years to know and see how effective this is for H.S. sufferers.
The thing with creams, no different to pills, tablets, supplements, and so on, is they only work as a band-aid.
It can’t get rid of what’s going on in the inside. It can temporarily remedy it on the outside momentarily, yes, but that’s it. You have to keep buying the product for it to keep working.
You essentially spend and spend on a band-aid, knowing that’s all that band-aid will ever be. And that’s in spite of what the cream sells you and persuades you into believing it does.
Like pills, creams can only do so much before they either stop working, or they don’t reach far enough for you to be truly and deeply satisfied (rather than just “coping” with the results).
2. Looking for that “magic” potion
That magic potion, like something out of a cartoon or a film with witches and wizards, doesn’t exist in the real world.
The magic potion for Hidradenitis Suppuraitva isn’t in a bottle, a cream, a serum, a pill, or whatever else they say is the best method of ridding of the skin disease.
You’ll chase your tail for the rest of your life, sadly, looking for this magic potion since it doesn’t exist as I already pointed out.
The root problem is what matters most, nothing else.
3. Scratching and peeling your H.S
Scratching and peeling your Hidradenitis Suppurativa is one of the biggest mistakes H.S. sufferers make, constantly. It’s something many do with plenty of skin conditions, not just Hidradenitis.
The temptation is savage. It feels good scratching that bit of your skin and relieving that “itch”, but what comes afterwards is blood, scars, scabs, pus, unnecessary pain (literally) and headache.
4. Never considering diet changes
This is a major Hidradenitis Suppuraitva mistake.
When you start focusing on diet for H.S, you start to get closer to the reasons why you have Hidradenitis Suppurativa in the first place.
The science is limited on this, but diet is some say to test and prove, and diet in itself has been proven to impact so many things, that it only makes sense.
The moment I started testing multiple foods for H.S, as in:
- Removing foods.
- Adding foods.
- Upping the frequency.
- Decreasing it.
And everything between is the moment my Hidradenitis started to heal. Slowly, but surely.
The process is still going as we speak.
5. Devouring too much sugar
Eating sugar is a taught habit. We’ve been taught from young, especially in Western society or those influenced by it, to devour sugar and eat more than our fill of it.
Study after study over the course of decades has proven to this day that sugar is BAD for you, but few talk about how to cut the habit despite everyone knowing it’s unhealthy and a slow killer.
Hidradenitis is inflammation, and inflammation loves sugar.
When you lower your sugar intake for any type of inflammation in the body, your symptoms lessen, and if done long enough it can even heal completely.
100% remission.
This step alone will make your hidradenitis suppurativa heal like magic if you cut back on the sugar to a sharp degree.

6. Having carbs in excess (refined carbs especially)
Next to sugar is refined carbohydrates. The brother of sugar. They usually fit on the same plate and are found hanging out with each other.
Refined is the keyword here, mostly. Refined means processed, which means damaged, changed, manipulated, and made to be unnatural for the sake of profit.
They do that by making you an addict.
What food in the world is as addictive and delicious as refined carbs or sugar? There’s a reason for it.
Stop that shit. It feeds your H.S. and “a balanced diet” involving this won’t change that fact, or heal those scabs and spots.
7. Too much gluten
Gluten has been shown to be a major issue for many people over the years, to the point of some believing it was some sort of FAD diet.
But as with things that can be proven either through anecdotes or the violent reaction someone’s skin has when eating gluten, this is far from a FAD.
It’s legit.
The day I stopped eating gluten, a quarter of my skin issues almost vanished. Within the month I was a new man, despite the fact it hadn’t all been wiped away because there were other issues to tackle.
There is some research showing that gluten is NO good for those suffering from Hidradenitis as well, so it’s a costly mistake to avoid making.
That means avoiding:
- Pasta.
- Cereal.
- Bread.
- Waffles.
- Pancakes.
- Crackers.
- Muffins.
- Spaghetti.
And anything with flour or any type of pastry.
8. Not realizing how dairy affects your skin
Dairy isn’t the devil, and it’s not evil. But yes, dairy does and has been shown in limited studies to affect those who suffer from Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
So how do you know if Dairy is a no-go?
- If eating cheese, MILD cheese is better.
- Aged cheese is bad for H.S.
- The longer the cheese is aged, the better for your skin as a general rule (histamines).
- Butter is generally better than cheese.
- Milk is something you’ll have to test if you’re willing.
- Fermented milk like Kefir is worse for your H.S.
- Goats and sheep milk or cheese is better than cows.
Besides this list, the fact is dairy is a known culprit though it can affect you differently depending on your skin, health, biology, and so on.
But not realizing this is a big hidradenitis mistake.

Ideas to reverse these Hidradenitis Suppurativa mistakes:
Habits are established by 3 things according to The Power Of Habit:
- Routine.
- Que.
- Reward.
Routine is the time of day, queue is the trigger (you open the fridge and see a cake, etc), and reward is what you get out of the habit.
Use this to stop scratching and peeling, and every other Hidradenitis mistake on this list.
