Some people like you, some people don’t. In the end you just have to be yourself. – Andres Iniesta
I don’t know whether you’ve noticed or not, but Adele is the type of person who doesn’t give a fuck about the opinions of others.
And I respect that trait of hers. You should too. Because the truth is, you shouldn’t give a fuck about what others think of you.
It’s nobody’s business but yours if you choose to be a certain way, act a certain way, or do as you please.
There’s nothing wrong with being yourself, keeping it real and being true to who you are.
Here’s what Adele can teach you about being yourself.
1. You don’t need to ask for permission
Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permission of another. – Madonna Ciccone
Too many people are scared, terrified, and even afraid of being themselves, online and offline. As If they need permission to do so.
The same can be said about parents, friends and teachers.
You don’t need their permission, or anybody’s permission to be yourself. You just be yourself regardless.
Adele is herself regardless of what people say about her or her weight.
She doesn’t need permission to be herself, it’s her choice. And the same goes for you. Quit seeking approval!
2. It’s better to be yourself than it is to conform
The reward for conformity is that everyone likes you but yourself. – Rita Mae Brown
That’s the problem with conforming to other people’s standards and expectations. YOU end up the unhappy person. NOT them.
Conforming and kissing ass to please others will only drive you miserable in the end.
Here’s a quote by Adele that puts what I just said into perspective. –
I’m really happy to be me, and I’d like to think people like me more because I’m happy with myself and not because I refuse to conform to anything. – Adele
I dare you to find one person who conforms and doesn’t be themselves, then tell me they’re happy!
It’s not possible.
3. Being yourself helps you build self confidence
You’ll never meet someone who smells of self confidence, yet doesn’t be themselves.
One compliments the other. And you can’t have one without the other. Be yourself and you;ll become more confident.
Become more confident and you’ll start to express more of your real self.
Adele does this flawlessly.
4. You’re free to be whoever the F you wanna be
It’s just better to be yourself than to try to be some version of what you think the other person wants. – Matt Damon
Many celebrities as well as the media have criticized Adele for being “fat”. But who are they say to say she’s too fat or not of an ideal weight?
If she’s comfortable in her own skin then so be it. And If she’s confident that way and chooses to be the person she is, then so be it!
The same goes for you. You’re free to be whoever the hell you wanna be.
Don’t allow people who don’t even matter try to dictate what you should and shouldn’t do. Or what you should and shouldn’t look like.
5. It’s better to be yourself regardless of criticism
I have never been insecure, ever, about how I look, about what I want to do with myself. My mum told me to only ever do things for myself, not for others.- Adele
It’s a shame so many of us are unhappy with ourselves, all because we’re afraid to face criticism.
And my response to that is this. What would you rather – Be yourself and be happy? or feel like a fraud, be unhappy, and feel like shit?
It doesn’t matter what you do in life, where you come from, who you are or what color your skin is. People will criticize you.
Even If you’re a
So you might as well get on with it and get over your fears.
6. It’s your life and nobody can dictate how you should live it
No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce. But all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit. – Ansel Adams
No matter how many times Adele is criticized for her weight, or anything else, she’s still gonna do whatever she pleases. And rightly so.
Why? Because nobody has the right to dictate how you should live your life, what you should look like, or what you should do.
Nobody has the right to dictate what you SHOULD be like. The only person you need to be is YOU.
That’s all you can be, and it’s the fastest train ride to happiness and a fulfilling lifestyle.
